Email Authentication
Heard that authenticating your business email is essential if you want your clients, customers and subscribers to keep receiving your emails? But you’re not sure what that means or how to do it?
There have recently been some changes to how businesses send emails, particularly if you use email marketing. Google made their biggest update to email in around 20 years (so it was a big deal that caused even the largest email marketing companies to panic a little!) and Yahoo followed suit shortly afterwards.
The changes they’ve made are for a good reason and will help email marketing in particular to become more effective. The new rules that have been put into place are much stricter than before and the main aim is to make sure only genuine emails get through. We know we’re happy to see less spam in our inbox!
If your emails aren’t authenticated, they can’t show inboxes that they’re genuine, so even if you’re sending awesome emails without a hint of spam, the email service provider (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Outlook etc) doesn’t know that and just looks for a few key signs to help it decide on whether to let your email through to the recipient’s inbox, send it to spam or just block it altogether.
Note: Doing this doesn’t ever guarantee that your emails won’t end up in the spam folder. There are tons of different reasons why they might go there, but it does mean that your emails won’t be blocked and will show that they’re definitely coming from you.
So what does ‘authenticated’ even mean?
There are small bits of code that are added to your domain name settings that signal who the email is from and that it’s trustworthy. The tricky part is that these bits of code vary depending on where you’re sending emails from, and some of them need to be generated uniquely for you.
With our email authentication package, we look at everything you use that sends emails on your behalf (e.g. Google Workspace, your email marketing platform, your booking system, etc) and make sure that they’re authenticated to send emails for your business. By being authenticated, this tells inboxes they’re genuinely from you, they’re safe to receive and they have a much greater chance of actually landing in the inbox!
Email is so important to online businesses, and if you’re putting time and effort into creating amazing emails and serving your customers, you want to know those emails will be received.
